Rubies & Roses Un-Gala 2009

Rubies & Roses ‘Un-Gala’ Raises Over $26,000!!!
Community members and area businesses as well as employees of Appleton Medical Center opened their hearts and wallets during the months of February and March for the Appleton Medical Center Foundation’s Rubies and Roses ‘Un-Gala’ by contributing more than $26,000 towards the Foundation’s Healing Hearts Fund. The Fund supports cardiac rehabilitation for those who otherwise could not afford the expense. In light of the current economic environment, the Foundation decided to forego the annual Rubies & Roses Gala fundraiser and sponsored, instead, an “Un-Gala” while incurring little overhead expenditure.
In years past, the affair included a dinner-dance and jewelry raffles. This year however, the Foundation simply sent out invitations requesting potential supporters to celebrate heart health at “Home Sweet Home,” and instead donate directly to the Fund. The response was incredible.
Staff members at Appleton Medical Center were involved in a challenge to determine which department could collect the most change. Contributions from employees totaled $1,134, with the Intensive Care Unit and Cardiovascular Service teams winning the challenge. Some local businesses also got creative. Schubbe Resch Chiropractic and Physical Therapy Centers collected change through out the months of February and March and the practice matched the amount raised. First National Bank – Fox Valley employees paid to wear jeans every Friday through the month of February with the Bank matching the amount.
